Shillong, Aug 4: Several parts of Meghalaya experienced heavy rainfall between Sunday and Monday morning, with Sohra alone touching 196mm by 8:30am today.
According to data provided by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Williamnagar in East Garo Hills, most of South Garo Hills and large swathes of the southern parts of East Khasi Hills saw rainfall in the range of 130mm and 204mm, though exact figures were only provided for Sohra.
In East Khasi Hills, Mawsynram, Sohra and Shella were all in the 130-204mm band, while Mawphlang was in the lower 70-130mm band along with Mawkyrwat in South West Khasi Hills.
The rain brought a cooling of temperatures as well, with Shillong recording a high of just 20.8 degrees Celsius yesterday, -3.8 degrees below normal.
The IMD has predicted more rain tomorrow, though the state has been downgraded to a yellow alert. Weather forecasts are fluid, however, and the IMD may change its advice when it issues a new update tomorrow.
