A health sub-centre at Mawmuthoh village in East Khasi Hills was inaugurated today by Nongkrem MLA and MDC, Lambor Malngiang.
A function was organised to mark the inauguration which was organised by the office of the District Medical and Health Officer in collaboration with Directorate of Health Services (MI), Meghalaya and Health Engineering Wing, Shillong.
The sub-centre was constructed at a total cost of 15 lakhs.
Speaking on the occasion, Malniang said that after many years a long cherished dream of the people is finally seeing the light of day and people can now access medical care without travelling all the way to Smit.
He attributed the fruition of the sub-centre to the cooperation of all stakeholders including rangbha shnongs, local residents and the health department.
Reiterating that health is wealth, he urged upon the villagers to come forward and utilise its services, especially in cases of pregnant mothers who often shun going for prenatal checkups, putting their health in danger in many instances. He also stressed on the need for people to come forward and partake of several health schemes of the government, such as immunization programme, maternal and child health programme etc.
