Shillong, Apr 3: The NSS PG unit and the Department of Agribusiness Management and Food Technology (ABMFT) of NEHU Tura Campus collaborated with William Initiative Schools, West Garo Hills, and the Meghalaya Basin Development Authority (MBDA) to organise a health and career camp at Ballonggre village, near Tura.
This event was themed “Swasth Yuva, Sashakt Yuva” and aimed at connecting education with the realities faced by the rural population, focusing on health awareness, child nutrition, and career guidance.
The camp successfully drew participation from over 200 children, students, parents, and local community members. Participants were engaged in discussions about health awareness and child nutrition.
Tangringchi S. Momin, a lecturer at Tura Polytechnic, underscored the significance of balanced diets for children and encouraged families to include locally available nutritious foods in their diets.
DPM of MBDA V. Valentine Hembrom, led a counselling session to motivate students to explore diverse career paths that align with their strengths and the opportunities available in their local context.
Programme officer of the NSS PG unit, Prof. Deepak Bhagat emphasised the broader community development role that NSS plays.
Additionally, basic health evaluations were conducted by students from NEHU’s ABMFT department who measured the height and weight of participants to calculate their Body Mass Index (BMI).
