The demand for creation of new Community and Rural Development Block at Umden which was raised by Nongpoh MLA Mayral Born Syiem and MDC Balajied Rani has received the support of headmen of the area.
It may be mentioned that Syiem and Rani recently met Chief Minister Conrad Sangma and submitted a memorandum demanding creation of Umden C&RD Block for the welfare and development of people of the area.
Meanwhile, headmen of Umden area under the banner of Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Umden Area yesterday held a meeting at Umden to press for the demand.
Speaking to media persons, Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Umden Area president J M Syiem said that there was urgent need for creation of C&RD Block at Umden to boost developmental activities in the area.
“Umden area covers over hundred villages which are also located far away from the blocks at Umling and Umsning. Most of the time, headmen of different villages from the area faced hardship and huge expenses to reach the offices of these two blocks for matters related to development projects,” Syiem said.
He also said that all headmen at the meeting have unanimously decided to extend full support to the genuine demand raised by the MLA and MDC of Nongpoh for setting up of C&RD Block at Umden.
“If the State government is ready to accept this demand, the Synjuk Ki Nongsynshar Shnong Umden will identify suitable land for setting up of the block office,” Syiem added.
