Expressing satisfaction with the shifting of hawkers from Khyndai Lad to MUDA parking lot, the Meghalaya High Court will soon decide the relocation of footpath vendors in other parts of the city.
While disposing of the Miscellaneous PIL on the matter, the court said that it would address the issue raised by Phuyosa Yobin, lawyer for the hawkers association, that some vendors could not be relocated because they have been wrongfully revoked.
A division bench of Chief Justice Indra Prasanna Mukerji and Justice Wanlura Diengdoh said, “Some additional issues like the one raised by Mr. Yobin and the question of relocation of licensed vendors from other crowded public places to designated vending areas and eviction of unlicensed and unauthorised vendors from those places and all other related or ancillary issues shall be considered when we take up the main public interest litigation.”
The hearing is scheduled for August 5, 2025.
While disposing of the MC PIL, the division bench said, “Since that goal has been achieved, nothing remains in this application.”
