Shillong, Aug 22:Stressing on a “calculated, targeted and focused” solution to relocate hawkers from the city streets, Cabinet Minister Ampareen Lyngdoh said the government has to deal with the “annoyance” with utmost sensitivity.
Lyngdoh said the citizens are looking up to the government to fix the menace of hawkers occupying the city streets. “We are dealing with human lives, and therefore, the government is sympathetic to a large degree,” she said.
Stating that it is expected that “feelings will go out of hand, people will say whatever they want, hurt somebody, take out weapons”, the Minister who represents Laitumkhrah constituency said, “…that drama will not happen in my turf.”
She underlined that the government is working sincerely to ensure a proper relocation plan and hoped that the Police Bazar-Khyndailad-look is seen in the streets of Laitumkhrah.
After the successful relocation of hawkers from Police Bazar, the government is working on relocating and decongesting major commercial areas of the city in a phased manner at Laitumkhrah, outside Shillong Civil Hospital, Boucher Road (Them Bijoy) and Motphran.
