The Deputy Commissioner, West Jaintia Hills has issued an order directing all illegal hawkers to vacate the public foot paths and main roads in Jowai town from April 27.
The order was issued in view of the regular problems faced by the district administration regarding removing of hawkers from occupying every nook and corner in Jowai town including public foot path, which has caused major inconvenience to the general public and pedestrians and disrupt the free flow of traffic.
According to the Deputy Commissioner, pedestrians are deprived from using the foot paths due to the illegal encroachment by hawkers and as a result pedestrian tend to use the main road for walking which in turn has led to frequent accidents due to heavy congestion.
The order also stated that Covid-19 protocols are not being followed by the citizens especially hawkers.
