Chief Minister Conrad Sangma today informed that the official handing over of the inquiry of Mukroh firing incident to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will take place shortly.
Speaking to media persons here today, Sangma said that the process requires both Meghalaya and Assam to sign the minutes of the meeting where the chief minister of both states agreed to hand over the probe to the CBI.
“Once the minutes of the meeting is signed by the chief ministers only then it is taken as official and hence that process also requires time and hence it has to be done very much in detail,” Sangma said.
“That process has been done now. Both the chief ministers have signed the minutes of the meeting and once that is done now the official process of communicating to the necessary different commissions will be taken and the Government of India will be informed,” he added.
It may be mentioned that the chief minister level talks held in Guwahati on September 30 on the inter-state boundary issues had decided to wind up the judicial commission that was instituted to inquire into the Mukroh firing and replace it by an independent inquiry by the CBI.
The CBI will register the case in a neutral place other than Guwahati and Shillong to maintain neutrality of investigation.
