Governor Satya Pal Malik has said that higher education is the ultimate source of women empowerment and suggested the North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) to draw more women into it.
The Governor, who is the chief rector of the university, said that NEHU needs to vigorously pursue the ideal of gender empowerment, which would be its significant contribution towards the nation.
Addressing the 49th University Day celebrations held at the campus today, Malik also cautioned against the illusion of standards of research and emphasised on high quality research so to produce Nobel laureates. He also stressed on the role of the university to build a generation of enlightened, educated and morally strong corp of educates.
NEHU vice chancellor, Prof. Prabha Shankar Shukla during his speech mentioned about the completion of long awaited Career Advancement promotion of teachers, creation of new centres and offices such as Office of International Affairs, IPR Cell and the Design and Innovation Centre.
Shukla said that NEHU’s massive online courses (MOOCs) to be launched through well equipped studios is a new beginning to achieve goals set by UGC in the form of SWAYAM program. He also informed that the new Centre for Creativity and Internationalisation of Higher Education housing DIC, IPR Cell, MOOCs and Office of the International Affairs represent the new synergy that has emerged in a short span of time.
Mentioning about the visits by Consul Generals of Republic of Korea, Thailand, US and France Shukla said these has opened up actionable collaborations between NEHU and international universities and said that the university is set to become the hub of cutting edge research and collaboration with neighbouring countries as well as with major countries like Japan, France, US and Australia.
He further informed that work towards MoUs with Greece, Thailand, South Korea and others are in an advance stage.
