Meghalaya Governor Phagu Chauhan today chaired the 31st annual meeting of the State Managing Committee of Special Fund for Reconstruction and Rehabilitation of Ex-Servicemen here at Raj Bhavan.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss issues pertaining to the welfare of resident ex-servicemen from the Army, Navy and Air Force, their pension benefits, medical facilities and other financial assistance from the central and state governments as well as the welfare of their widows and dependents.
During the meeting, matters pertaining to increasing the corpus fund of the Sainik Welfare Board, improving the participation of the corporate sector in the collective effort for the welfare and resettlement of the veterans and increasing grants to unions and association of ex-servicemen were discussed.
The Governor assured the members of his support in all endeavours aimed at improving the welfare of the ex-servicemen and their widows and dependents residing in Meghalaya.
Also present at the meeting were South Shillong MLA Sanbor Shullai, Chief Secretary Donald P Wahlang and senior military officials, among others.
