The Garo Students’ Union – Western Zone (North) has written to the chief minister, Conrad Sangma seeking the setting up of a college in Dadenggre Civil Sub division in West Garo Hills (WGH) while also asking for the upgradation of a school in the area.
In a memo to the CM, the NGO asked for the setting up of a college with Commerce, Science and Arts streams so that higher education becomes more local for the people of the area. Further they asked for the upgradation of the Dadenggre Puri Government Higher Secondary School with Commerce and Science streams.
“As you are aware we don’t have Science and Commerce streams in the sub division and this has been a long-cherished dream for all of us and we hope this is done at the earliest,” said the NGO in their memo submitted on Friday.
The delay in the declaration of MTET results for the sub division was also hit upon by the NGOs. MTET exams were held in the year 2019 though the declaration of results for personal interview for the eligible MTET candidates is yet to be made. Interviews were conducted on December 8-17, 2020.
The NGO added that results for other areas have been declared a long time ago and appointments to the vacant posts have been filled.
“It is surprising that these results have not been declared till date. We urge the government to do so at the earliest,” they added.
Lastly the NGO pointed to the immediate road repairs that are required in the sub division while also highlighting the poor telecom network connectivity and power situation.
Dadenggre is represented by the power minister of the state, James PK Sangma.
