The ‘Deputy Election Commissioner’ of the Garo Students Union (GSU) Phulbari unit informed that an election for its senior leadership will be held on April 22.
The decision was taken at a meeting on March 29, John CA Sangma said. Nomination will be until April 6 and scrutiny will take place on April 8.
The GSU is going through a period of infighting, with different factions questioning the legitimacy of the other.
Tengroang Marak, the GSU Western Zone (West) general secretary, said that the Phulbari election is “null and void” as the notification has been issued “without the consent and approval” of the GSU’s central executive committee.
