The Garo Students Union has filed an FIR against the general exporters’ association and tribal exporters’ association of Dalu after a Class 1 child of Purakhasia area was killed when a speeding dumper hit him while he was crossing the road.
Yesterday, five-year-old Laksbath S Sangma was run over by the dumper bearing registration number AS 01KC 6066 after which the driver fled from the scene. A chase was given by the Purakhasia Police Station personnel, who later found the vehicle abandoned near the road.
The speeding truck was returning after visiting the export hub of Dalu through where stones are currently being sent to neighbouring Bangladesh. The driver of the vehicle was later arrested by the police and the truck seized and taken to Mahendraganj Police Station.
The minor victim was a resident of Kotchu Adok under Purakhasia in West Garo Hills.
The GSU, through its FIR, condemned the reckless act and sought criminal proceedings against the driver as well as the two associations for endangering the lives of residents of the area.
