Fifty former Garo Students Union (GSU) and National People’s Party (NPP) workers today joined the Meghalaya TMC in South West Garo Hills district.
The party inducted GSU district president, Salman D Sangma and member Rockey Marak into the party fold in the presence of Ampati MLA Miani D Shira, State Mahila President Selma D Shira, and West Garo Hills District Convenor and Meghalaya TMC South Tura candidate Richard Mrong Marak, among others.
Welcoming the new leaders into the party, Shira said everyone who joined TMC party has taken a risk and decided to fight the current dispensation. Taking potshots at the current NPP-led MDA government, she said “In Meghalaya, there is no one better than Dr. Mukul Sangma, who has loved and taken care of the state. Now, we are seeing many problems in every department. In every aspect, things are getting worse. When we look into the border issue, it is really sad. There are no other leaders to fight this corrupt government except our leader Dr. Mukul Sangma.”
After joining the party, Salman D Sangma said, “I have joined TMC as I like their ideology, which focuses on secularism and federalism.”
Meanwhile NPP and UDP leaders today joined TMC in the presence of Meghalaya TMC State Vice-President and Umroi candidate George B Lyngdoh and Member of Parliament and Leader of AITC Parliamentary Party, Rajya Sabha, Derek O’Brien in Umroi constituency.
The Umroi candidate assured to uplift the lives of the people and urged them to have faith in the party, promising that the upcoming government will listen to the issue of the people and act towards the holistic development of the people.
The event witnessed leaders coming from various parts of the constituency including village representatives.
