The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Pedaldoba regional unit has expressed concern that construction of the Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) at Salbaripara under Raksamgre Civil Sub Division was yet to take off even as the foundation stone was laid a year back.
Unit president, Rimjen Ch, Sangma in a statement today said that though land was made readily available works to construct the school has not taken off even after a foundation stone was laid on March 6, 2019.
He said that the overall implementation of the scheme gets defeated when the Ministry of Tribal Affairs had sanctioned Rs 20 crore for the EMRS.
According to Sangma, an agreement was also entered between president of the Land Reservation Committee of Salbaripara, Whelping Marak and the West Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner wherein the committee had donated 12.4 acres of land for construction of the school sans compensation.
“The matter of construction is neglected and it may seem like a non-issue, but the fact remains that the government incurred expenditure on this program,” the GSMC said urging the Union Ministry of Tribal Affairs and the Chief Minister to immediately look into the matter.
