The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC), Pedaldoba regional unit has written to the West Garo Hills deputy commissioner, Ram Singh today over the poor construction of the Pedaldoba – Rabugong road which was devastated by the 2014 floods.
The area falls under the Raksamgre Civil Sub Division under West Garo Hills. According to the NGO, an amount of Rs 94 lakhs was sanctioned for the repair of the said road in the year 2017-18, with nine months being given for its completion.
“It has now been over two years since the repair work was sanctioned yet two culverts are yet to be completed. Each culvert was sanctioned Rs 4 lakh, so a total of Rs 8 lakh is missing,” stated Rimjen Sangma, the chairman of the unit.
GSMC alleged that neither the contractor nor the department in question has shown any form of eagerness in completing the work and the non completion of the culverts was posing serious problems for the local population, including office goers, school children and people requiring medical attention.
The committee, through the complaint has sought stringent action against the contractor as well as the PWD authorities for neglecting their duties and non completion of work.
