The Garoland State Movement Committee (GSMC) has pledged its support to the movement for a separate state for tribals within Tripura, called Tipraland.
GSMC leaders Balkarin Ch Marak and Bostone M Sangma met Pradyot Bikram Manikya Debbarma, the Chairman of the Tripura Autonomous District Council, president of the Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance and head of the erstwhile royal family, yesterday in Agartala.
They discussed issues of protecting indigenous tribes and demanding separate states, particularly for Tripura tribals and the Garos of Meghalaya.
According to a GSMC release today, Debbarma responded positively and agreed to cooperate on these issues.
The GSMC leaders also met NC Debberma, a cabinet minister in the Tripura government. They discussed matters of tribal unity and integrity in the entire North East region and the Garoland state demand.
The minister opined that regional parties should wake up the tribal community in the North East.
