Shillong, Sep 4: Five groups from Garo Hills have urged Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui to ensure timely notification and transparency in the screening tests for admission to medical courses.
In an open letter on Friday, the Association for Democracy and Empowerment (ADE), Achik Youth Welfare Organisation (AYWO), Federation for Achik Freedom (FAF), Federation of Khasi Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP), and Garo Students’ Union (GSU) said students from remote areas face hardship due to short-notice announcements.
The groups requested that notifications for screening tests and counselling be issued at least 3-5 days in advance to allow students to arrange transport, accommodation and finances. They also sought that all time-sensitive notices be published during official working hours and not late in the evening.
They further demanded that allocation of seats in medical colleges, including the best available institutions, be made strictly on the basis of NEET merit, reservation policy, roster system and eligibility.
