Shillong, Jan 14: Pressure groups in Pedaldoba region have demanded withdrawal of Trading for Non Tribal (TNT) and labour licenses issued to individuals from Rajabala Goalgaon village.
Garoland State Movement Committee, Pedaldoba Regional Unit Chairman Rimjen Ch Sangma said the decision was taken at a united assembly and candlelight vigil for Dilseng M Sangma, an activist who was murdered recently in Rajabala while investigating suspected illegal stone quarrying.
Rimjen said the assembly also demanded the government to hold the officers overseeing GHADC and the Forest Department accountable and to put an end to illegal stone mining in the plain belt region.
The groups also demanded immediate arrest of perpetrators of the crime and ex gratia support to the grieving family of Dilseng.
They also stressed on preservation of peace and harmony among all tribes and authorities to collaborate with the local community to uphold justice and restore stability in the region.
Meanwhile, a solemn candlelight vigil was organised today at the Tura super market in memory of the ACHIK leader by the Durama Imbama Norimbe Dikkimbi A•chik Ma•giparang (DINDAM), which was attended by religious leaders and representatives of various social groups.
