The All Meghalaya 4th Teachers Association, Garo Hills unit continues to repeat their demand even as their petitions continue to fall on deaf ears since 2017.
The association is pushing for an increase from Rs 12,000 a month to Rs 20,493, which would put them at par with other teachers in the state according to the principle of ‘equal pay for equal work’.
According to its president Tengsrang K Sangma as per the RTI the DSEL had sent the enhancement proposal since 2017. Yet nothing has changed.
“With hike in prices of all the commodities we the fourth teachers are facing numerous problems. With Rs 12,000 we can no longer survive. We also cannot apply another job because most of the teachers are overage,” Sangma in a statement today said.
The association reiterated their meeting with Chief Minister Conrad Sangma, Education Minister Lahkmen Rymbui and officials, the petition to the Governor and the discussion about their issue in the Assembly, which never bore fruit.
The fourth teachers are continuously sending out the same statement to media houses even as authorities concerned are yet to take note of the cries.
It may be mentioned there are 1521 fourth teachers. From these, the assistant SSA teacher’s salary was raised from Rs 9900 to Rs 20, 493 in 2017 while that of the fourth teachers the salary was raised to Rs 12,000 from Rs 6000 that same year.
