The state cabinet cleared the purchase of a site in East Garo Hills for recycling and waste segregation.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting yesterday, Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma explained that while the site is technically described as a landfill, actual waste processing will go on there. The CM had on March 11 inaugurated a project for recycling and segregation at Marten, Shillong’s garbage dump.
Meanwhile, the cabinet also notified accidental drowning as a disaster under the State Disaster Response Force.
The next of kin of victims of accidental drowning will be eligible for ex gratia compensation of around Rs 4 lakh, Sangma said.
The cabinet also approved the extension of the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to finish the electrification of villages that have been left out until now.
