Leader of opposition, Dr Mukul Sangma said that a government that does not act on cases of irregularities and corruption are guilty of an offence and should be treated as an accused.
Reacting to the constant denial on cases of corruption by the MDA government Sangma said, “The level of corruption is palpable and the worst thing is that the government with impunity is on a denial mode.”
Sangma said that any government should take note of an offence when brought it out in the open instead of constantly denying it. “Denying to take cognisance of these instances of irregularities and corruptions means they are acting as an accused. By default they are telling the people that they are the accused. That’s why they want to deny.”
He said while there has been a concerted, sustained and sincere effort from all concerned to draw the attention of the government to all instances of irregularities and corruption in the state, the MDA government has never dared to against those accusations and initiate legal actions.
“Have they shown the guts to go after those people who are pointing fingers against them? That itself is indicative of what’s happening,” he added.
Sangma said that corruption has destroyed many nations in the world and Meghalaya should not face destruction in the future.
