The Khasi Hills Autonomous District Council (KHADC) has not received a response from the state government on the release of a health sector grant provided by the Union Ministry of Finance.
The KHADC had written to the state government on May 31 and has yet to get an answer, Deputy Chief Executive Member Gigur Myrthong informed the house on the first day of the summer session today.
CEM Titosstarwell Chyne, however, reassured the council that the funds cannot be diverted by the state government and that the funds will inevitably have to come to the KHADC and with interest paid by the state.
The state government was, according to guidelines from the Centre, meant to transfer the money to the KHADC within 10 working days of receiving it and without any deductions.
Informing that there are four components of the health sector grant, Chyne said that the first component is for the conversion of rural primary health centres (PHCs) and sub-centres into health and wellness centres at Rs 9.28 crore. The second component is to build new sub-centres, PHCs and community health centres (CHCs) at Rs 3.21 crore.
Rs 23.30 crore has been sanctioned under the third component for urban health and wellness centres, while the fourth component is for block level public health units at Rs 9.25 crore.
