The state government today revised and consolidated lockdown and containment restrictions applicable across Meghalaya as Covid-19 cases and hospital bed occupancy continue to rise.
For East Khasi Hills, the worst-affected district, the lockdown will continue until May 24 and no inter-district travel permitted. Exempted state and government offices, banks and post offices are allowed to function with limited staff and all major markets in the district will remain closed.
Weddings will not be permitted and all religious places should stay closed. Funeral gatherings are limited to 15 people and first require the Deputy Commissioner’s permission. E-commerce and home delivery (including food delivery from restaurants) is permitted.
Construction work is permitted so long as labourers reside on site. Movement of agricultural produce and items will be regulated by the DC. The DC will also regulate the opening of essential shops.
For the state as a whole, all political, public, social and religious gatherings are banned. All tourist spots shall remain closed and entry of outside tourists into the state is banned. International border trade will remain suspended and sports activities are prohibited. Inter-state travel is restricted, though this will not apply to transit passengers to and from Assam, Tripura, Mizoram and Manipur.
