There has been an inordinate delay in the filling of vacancies in the police service, leader of the opposition Dr Mukul Sangma said today.
An advertisement was published in 2018 calling for applicants to the post of constable but the process has not been completed even four years on.
“Are people meant to wait so long? Existing vacancies have been created due to promotion, retirements and unfortunate loss of life but the government has not bothered to fill up these vacancies,” the former Chief Minister said. “That means that you don’t want to give job opportunities to the youth.”
Dr Sangma further accused the government of trying to cut costs by leaving vacancies unfilled. “Is it an indirect, intentional act to save money to fund their other projects?” he asked.
Meanwhile, the Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader also questioned why the government has been slow to call for a security commission meeting. Such meetings are meant to be held every three months to discuss the overall law and order situation and other matters.
“How many times does the leader of the opposition have to go on reminding the government? It is the responsibility of the government to respond to their call of duty with the utmost sense of seriousness,” he stated.
