The state government has issued standard operating procedures (SOPs) for the Christmas and New Year festivities in order to prevent the spread of Covid-19.
Although life has practically returned to normal, the government has still advised that people above the age of 65, those with co-morbidities, pregnant women and children not attend public functions. However, those who have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19 “may attend the celebrations”. All other participants must have at least one dose.
Church services for Christmas and New Year, including midnight services, are allowed this year but must follow all coronavirus protocols and staggered services are recommended. Outdoor services in the grounds of the church are permitted but should not exceed 75 percent of capacity.
Christmas carolling is also allowed subject to “strict adherence of protocols”. Community feasts, again recommended to be staggered, are also allowed.
Curfew will also be lifted on the nights of December 24, 25 and 31. Other general guidelines on physical distancing and mask wearing remain in place.
