The state government has issued showcause notice to the designer and contractor of the collapsed dome of the under construction Meghalaya Legislative Assembly building.
Addressing the media after the high power committee meeting of the Assembly today, Assembly Speaker Metbah Lyngdoh said that penalty was imposed on the designer as per the clause of the agreement.
He said that the designer agreed to design a new dome free of cost. The contractor accepted the shortcomings and will also carry out retesting and strengthening of the building and will not make any claim for reconstruction, he added.
The government will engage a technical engineer to ensure the safety of the building.
During the meeting, the committee discussed about the report of Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati (IITG) which pointed out lack of coordination resulting in the collapse of the dome.
