A fish pond constructed by the Soil and Water Conservation Department in Khliehtyrshi, West Jaintia Hills, is on the verge of collapse because of poor workmanship, the Federation of Khasi, Jaintia and Garo People (FKJGP) has said.
The pond belongs to a private individual, the FKJGP said after its inspection, but was built by the government department nine years ago. According to the pressure group, it does not have side drains and could burst at any moment, which puts people who wash clothes downstream of the pond at grave risk.
