The detailed project report (DPR) for the 177km Dainadubi-Dalu Road project has been finalised by the Meghalaya government and will be submitted to the Centre soon for approval.
This was informed today by Public Works Department (Roads) Minister Prestone Tynsong.
The DPR for the National Highway 62 project was finalised by the department and meetings were held with relevant District Collectors to discuss the subject of land acquisition.
The minister stated that if this project can be completed it will help all of Garo Hills as it will connect many parts of the region.
“The department aims to submit the DPR at the earliest. The ministry in Delhi would also like the state to start with the project as soon as possible,” Tynsong said.
The Meghalaya government is hoping for a smoother land acquisition process, since it adopted the revised National Highways Act, which should cut the time spent on acquiring land from around three years to one.
However, some landowners are known to be opposed to giving up their property for the project and the government will still have to get their consent as well as that of the Nokmas and district council.
“We are hopeful that all this will be done smoothly,” Tynsong said.
