The State government is collecting data on the tourist inflow during the Cherry Blossom Festival and the Bryan Adam concert.
Tourism minister Paul Lyngdoh stated that Meghalaya has experienced an unprecedented surge in the tourism sector but specific statistics will be provided when compiled.
“We are still collecting data from the two major events and will share the figures later, but they should not be less than 3 million,” he said.
Stating that efforts are underway to ensure that tourism growth continues, Lyngdoh said, “We want to ensure that the current momentum and popularity that Meghalaya has achieved will be further solidified in the coming years. The number of visitors has been substantial.”
He also informed that the State government will soon finalise an agreement for another five-star hotel in the heart of the city. “This indicates the progress we have made. We have truly reached the next level,” he added.
