The Meghalaya government has appointed an administrator for the Chandra Mohan Jha (CMJ) University.
Education Joint Secretary D. Lyngdoh has been appointed as an administrator for the university. “He shall implement the winding up of the University in a manner approved by the State Government,” a notification issued today said.
The Supreme Court on February 13 had directed the dissolution of the university, supporting the state government’s 2014 decision to shut down the institution after allegations of “mismanagement, maladministration, indiscipline and fraudulent intent”.
A day after the verdict, officials of the Education Department inspected the CMJ University campus in Jorabat, Ri Bhoi district has directed the Vice Chancellor and Registrar of the university to cease all financial transactions, administrative and academic activities.
The Ri Bhoi Deputy Commissioner had also asked the HDFC Bank in Lalganesh, Kahilipara in Guwahati and the South India Bank, East of Kailash Branch, New Delhi to freeze the debit transactions of all accounts related to the CMJ University and the CMJ Foundation.
