Shillong, Mar 8: Governor CH Vijayashankar unveiled four books authored by professors of North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU) at a programme held at Lok Bhavan on Saturday.
The books were Dad and the Salesman by Bikika Laloo Tariang, Indigenous Games Played in the Khasi and Jaintia Hills of Meghalaya authored by Andriana Pyngrope, Tariang and Rumika Talang, Mandatory Poison and Other Shillong Things by Tariang and Shillong: Glimpses of a City Through the Lens of an Amateur Photographer, also by Tariang.
Speaking at the event, the Governor congratulated Tariang and the co-authors for their literary contributions and praised their efforts to document the culture, traditions and everyday life of Meghalaya. He said such works play an important role in preserving the state’s rich heritage and unique identity for future generations.
Vijayashankar noted that literature capturing indigenous practices, including traditional games and the lived experiences of people in Shillong, helps strengthen cultural awareness and encourages younger generations to stay connected to their roots.
