Acting on specific intelligence, personnel of the Border Security Force (BSF) Meghalaya carried out several operations yesterday along the India-Bangladesh international border that led to the seizure of goods worth nearly Rs 17 lakh and the detention of a Bangladeshi national who crossed the border illegally.
During these operations, BSF troops seized 36 cattle and a huge quantity of contraband items, including sugar, cosmetics and prohibited goods worth Rs 16,98,000 that were intended to be smuggled across the border. These operations were conducted in different sectors along the Meghalaya frontier. The seized items have been handed over to the concerned Customs and police authorities for further legal action.
In a separate operation, alert BSF jawans apprehended one Bangladeshi national who had illegally crossed the international boundary in South Garo Hills. The individual was taken into custody by Baghmara police for further necessary legal action.
