Shillong, Jul 1: Meghalaya BJP president Ernest Mawrie has demanded that all the 60 MLAs in the State should submit their detailed accounts to the public for scrutiny with regards to the Rs 25 lakhs that had been sanctioned to each one of them from the MLA scheme for helping the needy people in their respective constituency during the Covid-19 lockdown.
In a statement issued today, Mawrie also lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement to distribute free food grains to 80 crore Indians among whom there exists the poorest, economically weak and ones facing hardship during these challenging times.
Modi had yesterday announced that free food grains would now be extended until November to give relief for an extended period as the country fights Covid-19 crisis. About 80 crore people will continue to get 5 kg rice for free and 1 kg of pulses for free per month.
Mawrie also welcomed the Modi government’s decision to help the farmers who have got a total of Rs 18,000 crore directly in their bank accounts and also the launch of the PM Gareeb Kalyan Rozgar Yojana for migrant workers.
The State BJP further appreciated the Central Government’s stand on introducing one Nation One Ration Card, the party feels by introducing this policy the migrant labourers will be directly benefited as now one ration card can be used in any part of the country.
Mawrie has urged upon the Meghalaya government to see that the free food grains which is meant for the poorest people reach them.
“The State BJP had earlier received complaint from different parts of the State (specially Garo Hills) that there were many anomalies in the distribution of PMGKAY, as PM has announced PMGKAY for the poorest it should reach without any political biasness or anomalies,” Mawrie said.
