Shillong, Mar 9: Gideon Tympuin won a gold medal for Meghalaya at the 5th KIO (Karate India Organisation) Senior & U-21 National Karate Championship 2026 in New Delhi recently.
Seventeen karatekas of the All Meghalaya Karate-Do Association (AMKA) participated, with Gideon being the only podium finisher in a tough competition, which ran from February 26 to March 1, AMKA said in a release today.
Gideon won his male individual kata event to claim gold. Other state karatekas also performed commendably during the championship, with several athletes reaching the medal rounds, narrowly missing out on podium finishes. Their performances reflected strong determination and competitiveness at the national level, AMKA stated.
The association congratulated Gideon on his accomplishment and thanked the state government for its support in the karatekas’ preparations for the next year’s 39th National Games, which Meghalaya will host.
