Shillong, Apr 21: The NPP led new coalition in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council-the Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC)-has listed disbursement of salaries for the staff of the district council as its first priority in the common minimum programme (CMP).
The CMP signed by NPP MLA/MDC Benedict Marak who is also contesting for the post of CEM listed seven other objectives to be taken up by the coalition that included revision of the GHADC electoral roll, to frame service and financial rules, amendments of the ADC rules and regulations, to peruse amendment of the Sixth Schedule, to explore generation of additional revenue and to pass and clear and Garo Customary Law.
Meanwhile, the GHADC on Wednesday got its new chairman with the election of Rakesh Sangma, NPP MDC from Babelapara constituency.
Rakesh bagged 16 votes against 12 votes polled by his opponent from Congress to win the election.
Total 28 votes were cast as BJP MDC, Bernard Marak did not turn up to vote in the election.
Election for the CEM will be held tomorrow after which EC will be formed the next day.
The NPP-led Garo Hills Democratic Coalition (GHDC) has selected NPP MLA/MDC Benedict Marak as the candidate for the post of CEM and GNC member Nikman Marak as the deputy.
