The A·chik Progressive Approach (APA), a Garo Hills-based organisation, has submitted a proposal to exclude non-Garos as voters and MDCs in the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC).
The proposal to amend Rule 8 (that governs membership) and Rule 128 (governing electors) was submitted to the GHADC Chief Executive Member Albinush R Marak and Deputy CEM Nikman Ch Marak.
APA called these rules “long outdated” and wants them amended during next month’s budget session. There are several MDCs in the current GHADC who are non-Garos.
In a release today, APA said that the response of the CEM and his deputy was “very positive”. The group was told that it might not be possible to make the amendment in the upcoming session but the GHADC could be summoned for a special session to deal with the issue.
