Shillong, Mar 9: As part of preparations for the upcoming Garo Hills Autonomous District Council Elections 2026, the Deputy Commissioner (Election), North Garo Hills, convened a meeting with representatives of various political parties from the district to discuss arrangements for the smooth conduct of the elections.
The meeting was held at the DC Conference Room, Resubelpara, today, where officials briefed the representatives on the Model Code of Conduct and other important guidelines to be followed during the election period.
The Deputy Commissioner emphasised the need for cooperation from all political parties to ensure that the electoral process is conducted in a free, fair, and peaceful manner across the district. Various matters related to election preparedness and coordination were also discussed during the meeting.
In East Garo Hills, Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer (DEO), RP Marak, convened a meeting with officials to prepare for the GHADC elections.
Marak emphasised the need to strictly adhere to the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and its dos and don’ts during the election period. Marak urged officials, including Zonal and Sector Officers, to ensure their responsibilities are carried out sincerely for a smooth election process.
The district has 131 polling stations across three GHADC constituencies, with 1,08,047 voters, including 36 vulnerable polling stations.
Superintendent of Police Stephen A Rynjah highlighted police duties and security arrangements, asking officials to be accompanied by security personnel while visiting vulnerable areas.
ADC in-charge of elections, DA Sangma, urged the District School Education Officer and MEPDCL to ensure proper construction of ramps in school polling stations and provide electricity connections. Returning Officers have been appointed for the three constituencies, with nominations filing underway since March 9.
