After one of the officers of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) fled following an altercation with agitating members of the Non Gazetted Employees Association (NGEA), the Principal Secretary of the council, HA Sangma, filed an FIR late last night.
In the video that has gone viral since the incident took place, employees under the aegis of the NGEA can be seen checking vehicles that were leaving the GHADC, allegedly over files stolen from the office. While initially there seems to be no problem with the assistant accounts officer who was being accosted, later the NGEA members try to force the person out of the vehicle after which he apparently drives off in fear. In between however, the officer runs over a few toes.
Following the incident yesterday, the NGEA members filed a FIR against the officer in question for allegedly endangering their lives.
The GHADC authorities, in a similar vein, filed a counter FIR against the NGEA members after the incident, alleging the group had illegally obstructed staff even while restrictions are in place to curb the Covid-19 pandemic.
The FIR mentioned that the present executive committee took the issue of pending salaries with the NGEA very seriously in an attempt to resolve the matter amicably. The officers were coming to the office in order to complete the formalities and prepare bills.
Further the incident involving the assistant accounts officer, Glory Hasting Marak, was mentioned and how the employees challenged him with the intention to get him out of his vehicle to assault him. The officer in question fled from the scene leaving two employees with minor injuries.
