Shillong, Jul 28: Over 1,000 members of the Non-Gazetted Employees’ Association (NGEA) of the Garo Hills Autonomous District Council (GHADC) conducted a peaceful protest rally in Tura on Monday.
The rally, which began at William Point, proceeded to various locations, including Hawakhana, the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Superintendent of Police’s office and Tura Bazaar, before returning to William Point. The employees were protesting the non-payment of their salaries for 42 months and demanded the immediate clearance of at least 12 months of pending dues.
Following the rally, NGEA president Brithen M Sangma convened a meeting with the members of the association where they decided to escalate their protest by resuming a sit-in demonstration starting from tomorrow.
