Endick Marak, the president of ‘Garo Hills Youth Solidarity (GHYS)’ has condemned the contractor on a Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) project in Bansamgre Songittal for “poor implementation”.
Villagers had reportedly complained to GHYS that the main water tank was cracked “due to poor construction”, Marak said, adding that the group had visited the village to confirm this.
The particular tank is the “cornerstone and pillar” of the entire project as it is where clear water is distributed to sub-reservoirs and then to households taps.
“As per the report we have received from the villagers, water is miserably leaking underneath the main water tank which was recently somehow repaired by the contractor after multiple complaints made by the beneficiaries,” GHYS said.
However, even these repairs were not carried out properly, it claimed, and further cracks emerged. With the project officially designated as completed, this appears to be an act of corruption, Marak alleged.
