Frustrated at the lack of response from the state government over the delay in the release of their pending salaries, the All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers’ Association (AGHSSASTA) has approached Governor Satya Pal Malik to seek his intervention in the matter.
In a letter sent to the Governor through the East Garo Hills Deputy Commissioner, AGHSSASTA said that the teachers had not been paid for the last four months.
The teachers, according to the complaint, have not been paid since June and have made numerous complaints to the authorities to seek the early release of their pending dues, without anything positive coming for their efforts.
“We requested the authorities in August to release the dues. The government through a verbal statement promised to release our salaries once the Project Approval Board for 20-21 was released. The PAB has been released since July but our situation remains the same,” said the teachers.
The teachers further asserted that SSA teachers across the country were being paid regular salaries but the situation was different in their case.
“When the project is similar across the country, why is there a difference in the regularity of payment of salaries? We have been suffering economically, physically and mentally over the issue of our salary delay,” stated the teachers.
