Shillong, Jul 29: The National Federation of New States (NFNS) has decided to stage a dharna at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi to provide fresh impetus to the demand for a separate Khasi-Jaintia and Garoland.
The decision was taken at a meeting held for the first time between the Hill State People’s Democratic Party (HSPDP), Garoland State Movement Committee, Joint Action Committee for the Autonomous State and the Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura, all constituents of the NFNS, is a pan-India body representing regions demanding separate and smaller states.
NFNS Vice President Nikman Ch Marak, Secretary Stalin Ingti and HSPDP President KP Pangniang and others attended the meeting.
Speaking to reporters Pangniang said the meeting decided to strengthen the cooperation between the groups. He informed that they will soon meet Union Minister Amit Shah to pursue the creation of a separate Khasi-Jaintia state and Garoland to preserve the indigenous culture.
He said the federation will hold the sit-in demonstration in New Delhi in December.
