Garo Hills will not accept militancy back after going through its pain and there is no scope for militants to re-group, Cabinet Minister Rakkam A. Sangma said.
Terming the claims of regrouping of the Garo National Liberation Army (GNLA) to be false, he said, “Enough is enough. We have experienced lots of pain during the peak of militancy. We have seen are people being killed in front of us. But now for the last ten years it (Garo Hills) has become like a heaven.”
Reacting to reports of regrouping of the outlawed GNLA has surfaced on social media the minister said, it will not be easy for them to regroup as they will not get the support of citizens of Garo Hills.
He said the police are on the job to ascertain the veracity of the claims. “They will do their due diligence and time will tell you the outcome,” he added.
The minister agreed that unemployment is a problem but said militancy is not a solution to take up arms. He pointed out youths can get into entrepreneurship, and those who are qualified can become teachers, engineers, doctors.
Sangma also said that the state government has launched programmes for the benefit of the youths like – CM Elevate, YESS Programme, Skilled Meghalaya and many others.
He pointed out that in Garo Hills there are many youths who don’t go to school and walk aimlessly. “What they will do is create nonsense in the community. This is what is happening. But people of Garo Hills are wise enough today and they will not be able to regroup,” Sangma said.
