The All Garo Hills SSA School Teachers Association (AGHSSASTA) has given the state government a two-week deadline to hike their pay or else it will organise statewide agitations.
The SSA teachers say that the Meghalaya Democratic Alliance government has ignored their plight, with no enhancement in their salaries since the last one in 2016 during the previous Congress Party-led government.
At that point, SSA lower primary teachers received a salary of Rs 19,044 and upper primary teachers Rs 20,493 but this amount has remained static over the years and its value has been whittled away by inflation.
AGHSSASTA wants a 100 per cent enhancement of salaries and its president, LG Momin, lamented the “longest” gap in salary hike in the history of SSA teachers of Meghalaya.
