The A’chik State People’s Front (ASPF) has written to the Meghalaya Power Distribution Corporation Ltd (MePDCL) over allegedly haphazard and dangerous stringing of power lines in the village of Balmuri in East Garo Hills district.
Instead of metal electricity poles, in many cases power lines have been strung up on wooden electric poles or even trees along the route, “thereby posing a significant risk to the safety of both human lives and animals in the vicinity.”
Concerned villagers have repeatedly approached local authorities and elected representatives but nothing has been done to address his “hazardous situation”, the ASPF’s Sualmari unit said. “The deteriorating condition of the wooden poles has reached a critical point and it is imperative to address this matter promptly to prevent any potential accidents or disruptions to the electricity supply.”
