The All Garo Hills Primary School Teachers Association (AGHPSTA) held a sit-in today in Tura over their various demands of the state government.
Teachers from all across the region joined in the demonstration at the PA Sports Complex.
The teachers’ chief demands include regularising the service of contractual teachers, appointment of more staff at single-teacher schools and ending the practice of using primary teachers as Booth Level Officers as part of the election process.
All these issues have been raised with the state government several times through memorandums, the AGHPSTA said. These have included missives to the Chief Minister, Conrad Sangma, and his sister and Tura MP Agatha Sangma.
AGHPSTA also said that it had received an assurance from the CM on their demands but had yet to see any real progress on the matter.
