A delegations of pressure groups and social activists, under the banner of the All Garo Hills JAC (AGHJAC) met the Chief Secretary MS Rao and Director General of Police R Chandranathan today seeking speedy recruitment process to various posts including that of MPS, UBSI, ABSI and constables in the police department.
“Advertisement for these posts had been made in the year 2019-20 though due to COVID, the same had to be postponed. The completion of recruitment would contribute in solving the unemployment in the state,” said JAC advisor, Roger Benny.
They also raised the issue of traffic congestion in Tura while asking for proper training to be conducted for traffic personnel to ease traffic woes. Further they also spoke on the lack of police personnel in various police stations asking for the same to be addressed pertinently.
“Most of the police stations have not been constructed and only makeshift camps are present. Some even have to use other government IBs to function. The DGP assured us that things are being worked out to improve the system,” added JAC convenor, Balkarin Marak.
In their meeting with the Chief Secretary, the AGHJAC spoke on the lack of development in many sections. They sought the immediate opening of the Captain Williamson Sangma Technical University. The foundation for the same institute was done in 2017. Similar was the case of the College of Architecture and Urban Planning at Jewilgre Tura and Tura Medical College which they felt needed to be speeded up and made functional.
They opined that until these are made functional, these institutes could be run from temporary places.
“We also informed of the incomplete Governor House in Tura and asked for it to be completed. Further the discussion centred on the long standing demand by various civil societies of making Tura the winter capital,” added the AGHJAC.
