The A’chik Organisation for Social Welfare (AOSW) has condemned the alleged misappropriation of MGNREGA fund by Samanda block officials.
According to a statement released today, the AOSW said that a Right to Information (RTI) request shows that a 400 metre motorable road from Dengagre to Matchakolgre was in the project list for Samanda block in 2020-21 but only half of the road was completed.
According to the RTI reply, a drain should have been constructed with the road but this “is missing too”.
This is a clear case of corruption that has benefited “some powerful officers or people” but disadvantaged the public, the AOSW’s vice-president, Tambu Sangma, said.
After receiving complaints from the aggrieved villages, officials from the Samanda block office visited Dawa Matchakolgre in August and promised that the pending work would be completed at the earliest, Sangma added, but more than a month later nothing has been done.
