Three-time MLA from Gambegre constituency Saleng A. Sangma today resigned as member of the State Assembly after being elected as new Lok Sabha MP from Tura seat.
His resignation was accepted by Assembly’s Commissioner & Secretary Andrew Simons.
With his resignation as MLA, the Gambegre seat has now fall vacant necessitating a by-election.
Addressing media persons, Saleng informed that he would discuss with his people and Congress party leaders in regards to the setting up of a candidate for the by-election for Gambegre seat.
Sangma won the Lok Sabha election from Tura seat with a thumping margin against sitting MP Agatha Sangma of NPP.
As per rules, an MLA who contested the MP election and won will have to quit one of the seats within 14 days after the results were announced.
Recently, Sangma visited the Parliament Annex in New Delhi to register himself as a new MP.
